Access Bank/Lagos City Marathon: Ambode Assures Organisers of Total Support

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State has assured organisers of the Access Bank/Lagos City Marathon he would give them the needed support to make the event’s second edition a success. Olukayode Thomas, the Head of Media and Communications, Athletics Federation of Nigeria disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Lagos.

Ambode said: “I want to assure the Chairman of the Organising Committee, the staff and everybody charged with the responsibility of organising the 2017 Access Bank/Lagos City Marathon that we will provide all the support they need. World-class facilities will be available, there will be improved security and we shall deploy personnel of all Lagos agencies needed to ensure that the Chairman and his team succeed”. Thomas said Ambode was keen to see the Lagos City Marathon placed among the top 10 in the world in the no distant future.

He said Yussuf Alli, the event’s General Manager, assured Ambode that the workforce would work diligently to ensure that the race gets an IAAF label before the next edition. Thoma further stated that the marathon’s organisers have a target of no fewer than 50,000 runners for the second edition scheduled for February 11.

He added that the winner of the 2017 Access Bank/Lagos City Marathon would earn a cash prize of $50,000, while the first runners-up and second runners-up will earn $40,000 and $30,000 respectively.
