How to spot
debit card
fraud
Debit card fraud occurs when a criminal gains access to your debit card details and/or PIN to make unauthorized purchases or withdrawals from your account. You do not have to be a cyber security expert to detect debit card fraud. Many of us don't know how to protect ourselves from it. These tips can help:
Beware of phishing scams: When doing business or buying anything online, stay vigilant for any red flags. Fraudsters may set up a phishing website requesting payment credentials. This website may look like it belongs to your bank or any other certified company that you do business with. In reality, they are only trying to gain access to your account.
Protect your computer and mobile devices: Use firewall, anti-virus and anti-spyware software on your computer and mobile devices. Endeavor to keep them updated regularly.
Only use secured networks: Do not conduct financial transactions online in a public place or over an unsecured network.
What to do if you have been defrauded on your debit card. If you realize that your debit card information has been compromised and you have been defrauded, immediately contact and notify your bank. This could help limit the financial damage caused. Ask for an investigative case to be opened to trace the fraudster if possible.
Most importantly, stay fraud aware.
Stay Safe. Stay Vigilant

Protect your account information: Do not leave your debit card lying around carelessly or give it to anyone to conduct transactions. Also, destroy all old debit cards properly with a shredder or cut it up with a pair of scissors.
Beware of fraudulent calls and text messages: Your bank will never call you to ask for your personal account credentials such as your PIN or your OTP (One Time Password). Calls or messages requesting such sensitive information can only come from fraudsters.
