What is a Hackathon?
A Hackathon is a sprint-like event where a group of people create solutions to real-life problems within a short time.
What is the goal of the Hackathon?
The goal of the Hackathon is to leverage on internal talent of the Bank to develop solutions that address the key strategic objectives of the Bank.
The strategic objectives this Hackathon include:
Winning in deposit-rich segments and transaction-heavy industries for Business Banking
Be the leading brand in the youth segment, focusing on local and international students
Improve customer centricity through digital channels and introduce lobby service officers focused on customer experience
How long is the Hackathon?
The Hackathon will run for 48 hours; Friday August 21, 2020 to Sunday, August 23, 2020.
What problems are we trying to solve?
We have 4 pressing problems faced by SBUs in the Bank that prevent them from achieving their objectives.
How do we increase stickiness, ensure retention or ultimately increase the Customer Lifetime Value of the Generation Z through consistent value offerings as they transition from different phases of their lives (students, NYSC corpers, young professionals / entrepreneurs)?
How can we understand the needs of our customers via different channels of the Bank and simultaneously gain insights to offer better services for customers?
What non-collaterized credit extension options can we create for SMEs to eliminate the barrier of winning deposit-rich segments and transaction-heavy segments such as Distributors, Traders, Importers, Contractors and construction) for Business Banking?
How do we build inclusive products (apps) for senior citizens and solve their lifestyle problems as they are more at risk from the COVID 19 pandemic and don't usually leverage on digital channels to go about their everyday lives?
You will be asked to pick your preferred problem statement when applying. You're allowed to pick 2 in case your first choice is fully taken.

Can I apply more than once?
No, you only need to apply once. Only one entry is accepted per person.
Can I choose my team?
Yes, you can apply as a team, or apply on your own. For those applying individually, we put you in a team to ensure a balance of skills.
Is there a prize for winners?
Yes. The best teams will be rewarded with Clap Coins, which can be redeemed for shopping vouchers on Motivosity. The voucher value will be between N50,000 – N100,000 per team member.
What will the Hackathon event look like? Is this a live or virtual event?
The whole event is virtual and will be held on Microsoft Teams. All shortlisted teams will be expected to log in on day 1 of the event. You will be briefed on the Hackathon's rules, expected outcomes and given a better explanation on the problem your team is working on. There will also be coaches available to guide you throughout.
Each team can have their meetings on their own Teams channel to work on building a solution to their problem. By day 3, you will be expected to present your solution in a PPT format along with a live demo of the prototype to a panel of judges.
What happens after the Hackathon?
The winning solutions for each problem statement will be prioritised for implementation.
