security personel at her branch. He was shouting frantically: There is smoke coming from an open window in the lunch room upstairs, it appears there is a fire in the branch!
The BSM rushed to the branch; the back door had been opened but nobody could go in. Thick black smoke spewed from the door. Attempts were made to enter the premises but the smoke was unbearable, they could barely see a thing, let alone breath through it. They had no choice but to wait for the fire service.
Frantic calls were being made, more people gathered, some employees showed up ( a true testament that bad news travels fast) relevant parties were notified, and then the fire service arrived and swung into action, they had head lamps, and protective gear and water of course. They set off to work.
The next day was Operation Clean up the Branch. Smoke had settled on the tables, chairs and all surfaces including the floor. All branch employees rolled up their sleeves and chipped in. Luckily the branch did get cleaned up and opened right on time on Monday morning. Everyone learnt a valuable lesson.
