PAUSE. RESET. LIVE
A mental wellness Journey...
Burnout is Real
Most days you are already exhausted before 9:00am, there is this cynicism and detachment you feel about your work, co-workers and customers. Let’s not forget the extreme dissatisfaction, and uncertainty about how to improve and grow in your career.
You constantly carry this feeling of tiredness, helplessness and apathy. You are not weak, you are not lazy, you are not unambitious you are just experiencing a burn out.
The truth is we are working later, taking fewer breaks, and constantly checking emails even when we are out of the office, so work is one of the biggest stressors. But when stress is not managed, it inevitably spirals into burnout.
Burnout can also be caused by a lack of support, lack of appreciation, workplace bullying and so many other factors. It is on you to build a burnout strategy for yourself.
So how do you build your burnout strategy?
• Accept that you are experiencing burnout
• Pauseandtakestockofallthat is around you
• Write down all the stressors and identify the ones within your control
• Be intentional about not stressing about things that are out of your control and take active steps to change those within your control
• Rest. The choice to relax is within your control. It’s important to take regular breaks during your workday. These breaks will help you reset and re-evaluate your emotions
• Detach self-worth from work achievement. How you feel about yourself should not be based on how many hours you put in at the office or how many times someone praised you
• Do something that is purely for fun and just for you every week. Be intentional about your social life and time spent with family and friends, it helps you recharge
• Pick up a hobby or dedicate yourself to a cause you care about
Be committed to having a life and healthy relationships outside work.
Be more.
