What Dating In Lagos is Really Like
WE ASKED 7 PEOPLE WHAT DATING IN LAGOS IS REALLY LIKE, AND HERE’S WHAT THEY HAD TO SAY
Mojibola, 31
“Honestly, it’s been a sh*t show for me. I’ve dealt with so much cheating, that I’m actually convinced that men are scum and that none of them can be faithful. I’m so disillusioned with love and it breaks my own heart. I used to love love and now Lagos has ruined it for me. I hope I don’t stay this way forever and that I go back to who I used to be.”
Tolani, 25
“Love or hook ups? In Lagos, people seem to think it’s all the same o. It’s like no one loves if hooking up isn’t involved. And I’m not here for that to be honest. I’m waiting until the right person comes along.”
Stephanie, 27
“Dating in Lagos is mad o! I love Nigerian men. They know how
to spend and take care of you. I remember struggling to date guys in university in The States. They always wanted to go dutch. I never understood that trash. My Lagos
boys pick up the whole bill and tell me to ‘Spend that cash, baby!’. I love their energy.”
Nicholas, 28
“Lagos women are deep o. But to be honest, I can’t see myself dating anyone not from Lagos. There’s always a babe to vibe with. And the babes are mad. I change my speck all the time. In fact, half the time, I’m confused as to what I really like. My flavor right now is alte pies. Their so sexy and always relaxed. Always down to go with the flow.”
Damola, 34
“Honestly, it’s hard. There are so many distractions in the forms
of other people and actual life itself. Lagos has so many women. I don’t know where to put my eyes sometimes. Like, maybe I should just remove them from my head and keep them inside my pocket. And if it’s not the bare babes everywhere, then it’s the hustle. I am always looking for money, working on one project and scheming my way to the
top in o翿 ce politics. How am I really supposed to date, and stay focused?”
Ijeoma, 21
“Me sha, I am an Igbo girl. When I am ready to get married, I will. And that’s on period. For now, I’m just being a baby girl, going on dates and living my best single girl life.”
David, 32
“I used to be what girls would
call a ‘f*ck boy’ but now I’m a changed man. If you hear babes trash talking and saying things
like ‘men are scum’, don’t blame them. I used to be that guy. I’m not anymore. I had to get over my personal insecurities and grow
up. Personally, dating has been great for me and I’ve met so many amazing women, who I haven’t always been fair to or honest with. But it’s like heaven opened over me because one day I said I was done with the games and I met the love of my life. I’m actually getting married to an incredible woman that I am so so lucky to have.”
