stakeholders, you must have the right team whose core values are in alignment with the organization’s.
Accountability and transparency.
What are three tips to successful fundraising?
Otto Orondaam: Clarity of purpose – You must understand the reason for the fundraising, and the goals set.
Effective communication
and storytelling: Fundraisers, donors, supporters, etc, need to understand the relevance of the fundraising to help them through the understanding of your existing impact stories and expected outcomes.
Transparency/Accountability: One of the ways to ensure brand integrity is by ensuring you have and effect processes that are 100% transparent.
How do you instil a sense of transparency in your NGO’s operations?
Otto Orondaam: We have
a standard and reputable Governance structure that enables accountability and brand integrity for every process.
Our model of operation is clear and communicated not just to our organization’s stakeholders but to the general public.
We also give every donor and partner an opportunity to be part of the work we do in various ways thereby seeing the impact their support is creating and the need

to do even more.
Our records are also audited
by internal and external bodies and made available to the public. Most importantly the impact
of our work and the excellence of our programs speaks much more about the quality of our organization.
How do you successfully identify potential team members who are just as passionate about your initiative as you?
Otto Orondaam: Same principle of ensuring that core values
are made well known to anyone who wants to be a part of our community. Before on boarding partners, volunteers, staff, etc., a due diligence process is followed to ensure we have a community that remains fit for purpose and properly aligned to our mode of operations.
With operations greatly reliant on the efforts of volunteers, how do you ensure continuity?
Otto Orondaam: Though we
are mostly volunteer-driven, we have a management leadership team and various other staff and teachers who work for the organization full time.
Our volunteer management department implements a yearly re-engagement of volunteers to ensure that the team we have aren’t just willing but available and still committed to driving impact across the 41 existing teams in the organization and across several communities and countries.
The department also opens
up a yearly Global Volunteer Recruitment window
where the applications of thousands of volunteers globally are received, treated (interviews, evaluations, etc.), and successful volunteers onboarded. This way we always have the right people people for the job who own the vision and keep running with it.
When considering self- remuneration, how do you justify what you consider as fair and still ensure your own personal growth and secur ity?
Otto Orondaam: As mentioned earlier, we have a governance structure comprising a board of trustees and advisory board, that ensures the right regulations are followed, global best practices are maintained, and everyone is continuously inspired and motivated to create sustainable impact.
