There will be a diversion of traffic in two phases during the partial closure of the bridge between Friday, July 24, 2020 and January 24, 2021.
The first Phase of the diversion will last three months. The Oworonshoki- bound lane of the Third Mainland Bridge, will be for morning traffic from 12:00am to 1:00pm from Oworonshoki to Lagos Island on the Lagos Island- bound lane, while the afternoon traffic from 1:00pm to 12:00am will be from Lagos Island to Oworonshoki on the Lagos Island - bound lane.
Phase 2 of the diversion is also slated to last three months. The Lagos Island
– bound lane of the Third Mainland
Bridge, will be for morning traffic from 12:00am to 1:00pm from Oworonshoki to Lagos Island on the Oworonshoki bound lane, while the afternoon traffic from 1:00pm to

In other words, during the period of the partial closure, a lane of the bridge will be opened to traffic for vehicles driving inward Lagos Island in the morning, while other lanes will be shut. It will be the reverse for vehicles driving inward Mainland in the afternoon, while others will be shut. Priority will be given to those driving from Mainland to the Island in the morning and afternoon to use the bridge, while those driving against traffic will use the alternative routes.
Motorists are advised to use these alternative routes: First, from Carter Bridge through Iddo through Oyingbo to join Adekunle ramp inward Oworonshoki. Secondly, from Ijora Olopa through Western Avenue to Ikorodu Road.
Motorists heading towards Ikeja and Ikorodu Road from Osborne Road, Ikoyi in the morning are advised to make use of the Carter Bridge to access Eko Bridge through Ijora Olopa. The second option is from Bonny Camp to Independence Bridge through Apongbon to Eko bridge, Ijora Olopa, Iddo and Oyingbo.
In the afternoon, road users inbound Lagos Island are advised to use Ojota
on Ikorodu road to access Funsho Williams Avenue through Eko bridge/Apongbon axis or utilise Ikorodu road to access Fadeyi/Jibowu/Yaba axis to access Oyigbo-Iddo to Carter Bridge.
Commuters are also encouraged to use ferries as an alternative means of transport.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will work with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on all the alternative routes to ensure that motorists have a smooth journey.
It is, however, advised that those who don't have a genuine reason to be
on the road stay home in order
to reduce vehicular movement during this period.
Finally, while planning your everyday movement, please remember that the Federal Government imposed curfew of 10pm to 4am daily, is still in effect.
Stay safe.
